All rights what is SATA?  This is a new interface on the motherboard of the computer used to connect hard disks or any kind of information device, such as a DVD-ROM discs.  It replaces the older IDE and is not only much faster, but easier to use, since you no longer need to worry about drive jumpers.  Cables for this interface are also much more compact, going from 40 pins only 7.

Currently there are 4 different versions of SATA, they appear in the table below.

SATA 1.0-the first generation of SATA, transfer rate up to 150 MB/sSATA 2.0-the second generation of SATA, transfer speed, doubled to 300 MB/sSATA 3.0-third generation SATA, still very new technology, transfer speed, here is up to 500 MB/seSATA-this is the external SATA port.  Since cable length must be less than USB and Firewire, and a transfer speed of USB 3.0 will be faster, remained outside this SATA.

Make sure to enable INTERFACE (AHCI) MODE in the BIOS, you will benefit from additional device features, this is especially important if you run the SSD.

Add a SATA drive is simple.  Power off the computer, connect the interface cable and power wire to your device.  Start your computer, back up, and then once in Windows, right-click my computer and select manage.  Under disk management may need to initialize and format the new drive to work.  If ever fill your entire SATA slots, you can get a SATA controller card to add more devices.
