What is DDR memory?  The first acronym DDR means double data rate RAM.  RAM is memory.  DDR RAM is essentially SDRAM with improvements, allowing it to send data twice as fast as a conventional SDRAM, therefore double data rate.

There currently are 3 standards of DDR memory.  DDR, DDR2 and DDR3.  They are not compatible with previous versions.  You must use DDR2 of DDR2 Board, etc.  When you purchase DDR memory, you must purchase memory, motherboard supported, it must also check the number of the secondary.  Example.  If a stock is said to support DDR3 PC15000 RAM, you need to RAM in order to ensure that is supported.

The picture below, is the number of DDR memory 13.  Color coding of slots allows you to know there are 2 channels.  If you give 2 memory modules with the same size in 2 slots, you can then run your RAM in dual channel.  This will double the speed at which your RAM works he wrote for both memory modules in the same time.

Often times, the speed is just a list of motherboard MHz RAM speed.  If the Council says it supports DDR3 1866MHz memory.  You can easily convert the PC number by multiplying by 8.  In this case 1866MHz memory is PC15000.

If you want to add more memory in the future, upgrade RAM is easy.  All you have to do is to make sure that you have free slots of RAM for more MEMORY and the installation of verification.  Note rods in channels must be the same size, but you can select different sizes in other channels and still run your RAM in dual channel mode.  If you start with 2 1 GB sticks, you may later add 2 2 GB sticks and still have a dual channel memory.
