again in issue 89 custom computer, you may remember that our own ex-News Hound Gareth Halfacree wrote for their efforts to raise money to purchase a rare collection of Alan Turing. Via Twitter and Google by generous donation of $ 100 000 Garrett raised just under £ 90 000 for Bletchley Park trust so that she can buy documents for public display.
Collection, originally property of Professor Max Newman, a friend and colleague of the Bletchley Park, Turing includes Brušuri of 15 of the 18 published works, together with the Newman annotations. Collections is so significant, because very little remains of the work or their personal belongings, with a large part of the documents and records of Bletchley Park, Turing destroyed after World War II.
However, with an estimated price of between £ 300 000 euros and £ 500,000, the collection looked to be sent into the hands of a private collector. Happily, however, that price is not met when the collection increase to tender last November, and un-collection sat purchased in anticipation of later selling.
Then a few weeks before, the national heritage Memorial Fund, which aims to save the most outstanding parts of the national heritage of the risk of loss of the nation, stepped in with additional funding of £ 213,437. Once this has been added to Bletchley Park, the Group was able to respond to the list price and purchase private collection.
Simon greenish, CEO of Bletchley Park, the trust, said “the acquisition of this collection of essential is possible only by the impressive support of the public, the media, Google, the National Fund for Memorial of heritage and Christies auctioneers are, whose help in brokering the purchase be gratefully acknowledged. We are happy to have the collection here at Bletchley Park, which is probably its most fitting home and it will be an incredible addition to the visitor experience. “
The collection with the movement of display later this year in the Bletchley Park Museum. All of which just goes to show that it is possible to make a difference. We would very much like to congratulate Garrett this achievement and also to thank the national heritage Memorial Fund for the receipt of additional money.
