ASUS Rampage III Black Edition + Intel Core i7-980X @ 6.5GHz – LN2 Overclocking

Check out this *secret* site where it’ll show you a cool trick that actually TRIPLES your PC’s performance… Plus tons more!

The Ultimate CPU Overclocking Guide!
Overclocking Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition using the ASUS Rampage III Black Edition mainboard (+ ASUS Geforce GTX 580 DirectCU II). We managed to overclock the CPU to 6.5GHz (6-cores 6-threads) using Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) for cooling… thats all… for now ;-) CU @ www.GHz.gr (Greek Hardware Zone) Music Deadmau5 – Cthulu Sleeps (Ultra Records). www.youtube.com

    Yeah right…
If you are in love with this piece of PCB, i can send it to you for free to "do your thing" as many times as you like…

    You need both. A very good 2600K & a very good 980X or 990X.

    and 5.4GHz.
You may have to go through more than 30 2600K’s to find one that can run the benchmarks at 5.5GHz-5.6GHz.
Some people tested more than 50 pieces to get a 2600K capable of benching at 5.7GHz-5.8GHz.
    Overall, Sandy Bridge is very good in some benchmarks ( SuperPi 1M & 32M, 3D Mark2001SE, 3D Mark03, 3D Mark06, PiFast, mainly ) while the 980X/990X ( a decently clocking one ) is better in other benchmarks ( 3D Mark05, 3D Mark Vantage, 3D Mark11, wPrime, etc).To be on the top

Actually, you can’t get 6.5GHz on a Sandy Bridge.
The LGA1155 Sandy Bridge platform is limited by the CPU Ratios ( Multipliers ) since you cannot reach high BCLK ( BaseClocks ) because of the way they designed the CPU & the boards, you are limited to 104-105MHz BCLK.
The very cream of the crop Sandy Bridge i7 2600K’s at the moment barely hit the 6GHz mark ( we have seen only 2 or 3 2600K’s hitting the 6G mark ), while the vast majority overclocks to something in between 5.2GHz

  7. stripesthebird says:

why does anybody still use 1366? You could get at least 6.5 on a Sandy Bridge chip.
