Okay, so what is PCI Express?  This is the interface on the motherboard, which replaced AGP.  PCI Express is much faster interface.  Fastest AGP 8 x interface is and may go to 2.1 GB/sec, the fastest PCI Express slots 3.0 will make 16 GB/s PCI 2 will make 8 GB/s and PCI 1 will make 4 GB/sec.

Another great feature of PCI express is backward compatible, meaning you can get PCI express 1 card and place it in 2 slot, or PCI express card 3 and it 2 and it will work well.  The only difference mentioned above will always get slower bandwidth.  3 PCI express card will work only 4 GB/s in the PCI express slot for 1 etc.

The picture below, PCI Express slots is number 6.  Below the view is the same Board.  This Council actually has 2, the second is not numbered, but is the right of the number 8.

There are 2 type of PCI, PCI and PCI-e or PCI Express.  In the purchase of the card, keep 2 are not interchangeable.


Add PCI Express card in your computer is a much simpler process than most people think.  You will need to power off the computer and remove the power cable. Installing the card and lead to abnormal or clip the box or screw.  Connect the cable to the back of the computer monitor and start the computer.  Remember, you will need to update the devices before your new hardware to work properly.
