@NADaxe the cpu is locked but you raise the base clock on the motherboard to overclock this cpu.

    Something i dont understand….

I have heard, that the i7 970 was locked (it could not be oc)…..

But you do it anyways….i am confused….

    Someone explain?

ive just copied your setting to my rig which is the same cpu and sabertooth mobo as yours. Can i ask if you still run these settings or do you recommend changing any settings?

ace vid by the way bud

@user7474 yes it will work I did with my rampage formula iii :)

    That was good :)

@chiefgeargrinder Hey I am planning on building a computer using the same processor and mobo as you, however I was planning on using 12gb of corsair Vengeance memory (3x4gb) @ 1600mhz. Would this require me to change any part of OC that you showed in the video? I would basically want to do a safe overclock to 4ghz as you did. Thanks

I got mine stable on CPU Voltage.. 1.25 volts

  8. KINGhotaru11 says:

Your video was great helped me out.. thanks

  9. user7474 says:

@chiefgeargrinder, the safety is most important, i’ll stick to your rules, thank you so much for your advice, all the best

@user7474 I can’t say it will for sure because every cpu is different and some can go higher with less voltage while other can’t hit 4.0 no matter what the voltage is. My recommendation would be don’t go over 1.350 volt on the vcore and don’t go over 1.350 volt on the qpi/dram core voltage. keep your qpi/dram voltage within .5 volts of your memory voltage. do not go over 1.65 volts for the memory or cpu will slowly fry. to high of a qpi/dram voltage over 1.4 will quickly rot or degrade your chip

hi, will it work if overclock 970 with Asus Rampage 3 Forumula motherboard? i mean if i follow all the steps in your video is it safe? i’m a complete newbie.

    All the best

@manutdfan793 you should be fine with your temps with that cooler. For that price range I would have choosen the Noctua NH-D14 but the h50 is still very good. Go to the exit tab in the bios and choose reset to factory defaults to undo the overclocking with ease.

  14. manutdfan793 says:

    I have a corsair H50 liquid cooler
my case is a Cooler Master HAF X

I should be able to run this OC without overheating right?

I have the same processor, motherboard and also 6GB Ram
Once this is done, is there some way however to reset it to the factory clock with ease?

Thanks in advance for any help

1.6 memory should work fine . These setting are just to get people started and the idea on how to go about it. as for voltage drop The cpu is prime 95 stable at 4.0 1.325 vcore si i set it to 1.350 in bios to leave room for Voltage fluctuations.
The one thing I love about this sabertooth mobo is it will not overvolt.

  16. clausbohm says:

Will these spec work with DDR memory at 1.6 voltage (ofcourse changing mem voltage as nessesary)? Also how did you tweek for the voltage drop issue, nice video!
