Use of Web-based instant messaging program makes sense when you cannot download or install the instant messaging client. But, all too often Web-based IM services force to the victim of the features you know and love for convenience. Not so with IMO instant messaging program. This free Web-based service offers most of what you expect from your desktop IM client and even throws in a few extras–not installation requires.

IMO supports AIM/ICQ, Facebook, Google Talk, Jabber, MSN, MySpace, Skype, and Yahoo. You can choose to connect your accounts to log on to all of them simultaneously with only one entry. After logging in, IMO displays a list of your contacts on the right side of the screen, with a small icon indicating which services they use. You can change your friends nicknames, if you want to identify them more easily, but you cannot merge the contacts. This is unfortunate, since many of my friends to my Skype contacts are also my friends and Facebook. If I can collect them, I can clean my difficult contacts and make faster decisions about how to contact with them.

You can choose between view of the window where the new calls are shown in the traditional, instant messages and similar fields of the IMO, or split view, where the conversations are organized in different sections. View of the window if you manage only one or two calls, but may be exceeded, if you’re chatting with more everything. This is when you switch to the view of sections (which can be done by clicking the icon) makes sense.

I like that you can set the IMO to save your chat history, having too many customers, it is easy to delete valuable information when you close the window to chat too quickly. You can save them indefinitely and you can delete individual calls optional. also I like how easy it is to send a voice IMS. If you want to send a voice message, you can save, which is long up to 30 seconds and send it to one of your contacts. IMO says that messages are playable on most patients, and my aim contact is able to obtain it without problem.

You can make voice or video Chats with one of your contacts, no matter what IM service they use, as they have speakers, a microphone (or headset) and a webcam. If their service for Instant Messaging does not support voice or video chat, IMO send a link to an HTML-based voice/video chat, which does not require registration. You can send files, as well as to obtain them from other users of the IMO; You can also send them to the IMO, who are not consumers, but may not receive them.

IMO there are many useful features, but is not without drawbacks. In my tests I sometimes experienced downtime of the network, which left me unable to chat, albeit briefly. Also noticed that the service does not show images for all my contacts. It displays photos on your Facebook profile for only about one quarter of my contacts, but not for the rest of them. These problems are minor and have not been sufficient to detract IMO appeal.
