Intel Core i7-980X Gulftown BIOS 24/7 OC 4.1GHz Low VCore

Check out this *secret* site where it’ll show you a cool trick that actually TRIPLES your PC’s performance… Plus tons more!

The Ultimate CPU Overclocking Guide!
If you recall from my previous video, in the last part I showed what my BIOS settings were for a 4.5GHz overclock using my i7-980X Gulftown and EVGA Classified 760. Never settling for the status quo, I decided to do some mucking around and have found providence in a low VCore 4.1GHz overclock which I use primarily now. Ill go step-by-step into my settings and voltages, and also show you what gadgets I have on my Windows 7 desktop. I invite you to check out my newly created website, and subscribe to the forums!!! www.sirjamesd.com

This and the 4.5GHz OC video are EXACTLY what I’m looking for atm. I’m sick and tired of my 965XE and is planning on replacing it with a 980X.

I really appreciate you for sharing. :-)

Are you cooling with air or water? I am going to cool mine with a Cooler Master V10. Do you think I will be able to get it over 4 ghz 24/7?

  3. SirJamesDDJ says:

    @lehmann540 It’s foldin’ now, my friend :-)

  4. lehmann540 says:

We at [H]ard would be folding 24/7 on that!

    @MrStevenn21

Some boards may need a bios update before you can install a westmere-based cpu like the 980x or xeon version.

    My core i7 980X 3.33Ghz to 5Ghz i am right on water cooling 20L, 4 fan speed 800 – 2,000rpm and power supply 1,000w icute so temp 10c to 15c stay by 24 hour.

    i got order soon for Ram 2x2GB 2,000Mhz 240pin :D … what u think ?
    Mad PC powerful!!! lol

  7. TheMadeira2010 says:

have to had a flash the bios.

  8. devourment8800 says:

my ram is for 1866mhz but i can only get it to 1750mhz, how did you get yours to work? mine seems to change when ever i crank up the cpu :S

  9. UbeefHooked says:

    raid boots up slower

  10. MrStevenn21 says:

    i have a asus Asus P6T Deluxe LGA1366 motherboard with an Intel Core i7 920 CPU @ 2.67GHz.
when i buy my intel core i7 980x gulftown and overclock it to 4ghz will i need to flash the bios or will it be ok as they are?

  11. SirJamesDDJ says:

@ZaetaAzteca I had an i7-920 in there before.

  12. ZaetaAzteca says:

Did you build you rig from scratch or just an update from older CPU ?
In case were a brand new, how did you solve the problem of flashing bios for i7 980x ?

  13. CaLLMeImaGinE says:

@SirJamesDDJ that would be murder :D thanks for the info james.

  14. SirJamesDDJ says:

@CaLLMeImaGinE I could get it to 4.7-4.8 by jacking the VCore to the moon. I’m thinking about knocking down to the 970 Gulfown when that comes out.

  15. CaLLMeImaGinE says:

great video james. but whats the fastest you think you can get the i7-980X overclocked to to be come stable?

  16. mNikke says:

@SirJamesDDJ hey i got the hyperx 2000mhz cas 8 instead. Do you think it would be dumb to take your settings and just test prime95 for 24hours if it stays up?
Since your cpu is at 19C, though my memory does not have fans but high fins only

  17. SirJamesDDJ says:

@mNikke For gaming benchmarks and Vantage I run at 4.4GHz, but for 24/7 and regular gaming I use this 4.0GHz overclock.
For 1866 you’ll have to knock down the mem ratio to 2:12 and also set the timings accordingly.

  18. mNikke says:

Im confused. So this is your 4.1ghz 24/7 setup. But it is not for gaming?
Do u lower ur clocks for gaming or what did u mean? Also for corsair dominator gt 1866mhz ram how are the settings affected?

  19. mikesmultimedia says:

I have corsair dominator ddr3 1600 trichannel 6gb 3×2 soon to be 12gb 6×2. I notice your settings are based on ddr3 2000 memory. What will change if Im using ddr3 1600?

  20. garyprimefluffy says:

    Nvidia

  21. D3athLikeEric says:

which is better: overclocking with FSB or with multiplier, cause i got my amd 955 at 3.8ghz with x19 multiplier

  22. mrmobiusrm says:

So your getting so 480s, hey?

  23. Trubyd44 says:

I guess you’re going with some EVGA GTX480 FTWs then!?! Cool deal. How long till you get them. ;)

  24. TylertheGeek28 says:

lol 17c !!!, great vid as always, nice oc to.

  25. RKOver17 says:

you still at 4.1ghz at those voltages ^^
