Newegg TV: Intel Z68 Smart Response Technology SRT SSD Caching Demo

Check out this *secret* site where it’ll show you a cool trick that actually TRIPLES your PC’s performance… Plus tons more!

The Ultimate CPU Overclocking Guide!
www.newegg.com Today Paul talks to Darrin, Intels Product Marketing Engineer, about their versatile Z68 Chipset. The Z68 Chipset for Intels 2nd Generation Core i3 Sandy Bridge Processors does a few things for you: first, it enables both CPU overclocking (with K-series CPUs) and GPU overclocking of the integrated GPU. This combines the functions of the H67 and P67 chipsets that were released along with Sandy Bridge. It also allows you to use Smart Response Technology, combining a small SSD and an HDD to enhance your systems performance, and Quick Sync, which is an accelerated video-encoding tool that processes via the iGPU. For those who are trying it out, Darrin and Paul walk through the setup of SRT and perform some benchmarks to show the speed boost in action. –Credits– Interviewer: Paul Interviewee: Darrin Camera: Kyle, Danny, Mr. Lam Editor: Kyle

@ninhbac04 I do not have this, but I BELIEVE it is a motherboard driver. So you will have to install it, but not "run" it all the time.

  2. NortonMicroSystems says:

Okay, also, if you have a 120GB SSD it will NOT use a max of 40GB’s as a cache, the max is 64GB’s. Again 64GB NOT 40.

  3. NortonMicroSystems says:

Cont. Love you Intel. Well done!

  4. NortonMicroSystems says:

1 thing, it’s not important, but "explorer.exe" is Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer, "iexplore.exe" is Internet Explorer. Other than that I think it is a great video, as usual. Keep it up Newegg. And as always I

  5. ninhbac04 says:

is srt a program or is it part of the bios? can i just buy a ssd and enable srt technology?

  6. ninhbac04 says:

@KasunK18 It looks like you can do it either way. i would think that loading of SSD is more efficient. Using it only as cache would not be using it to it’s full potential.

  7. Stephenbriles says:

I hope he uses explorer.exe every time he uses his computer, otherwise it would be very difficult to navigate through windows. Lol

  8. pcjunkie209 says:

@Coolcam. That won’t work. U have to install OS on spin disc and then SSD for cache. I have played with this a lot on multiple setups. I am gonna try a sata 3 Raptor and a sata 3 SSD to see performance difference. :)

  9. pcjunkie209 says:

Darrin u da man!! New Egg rocks!! :)

  10. koolcamdaman says:

Should I use half of my ssd as a boot drive and half for smart response caching to achieve the best boot time and overall performance?

  11. Ndragonawa says:

@fsx2100 I don’t think so, although it will decrease loading times, and other storage-orientated stuff.

  12. NikeySunfire says:

@SuperMaexle123 It’s the same, you can lie down on both

  13. fsx2100 says:

will this increase your average fps on a pc game

  14. KasunK18 says:

I’m confused…so does that mean I can install Win7 on to the SSD, load windows and install all drivers and then enable SRT, and run it off the SSD with no issue? Or do I have to load windows off the HDD for this to work?

  15. InfiniteRagnarok says:

@shinigamidestroyer I meant writing of new files, like copying a large video file from a USB to your HDD. But I guess one doesn’t do that kind of stuff often so it prob wont be an issue. Wonder if it will affect download speeds too since you are technically writing a file onto your HDD as you download it. One more question is it possible to make the ssd a boot drive for windows and use it as a cache?

  16. eLeMeNTbT says:

    @zhabil2Evil yeaaaaaaahhhhhhh pleaseee

  17. kd5eej says:

@PancakesGaming But it didn’t therefore your argument of relevancy is moot.

  18. SuperMaexle123 says:

    TestBED? Not TestBENCH?

  19. correasm91352 says:

intel quick sync isn’t very good. if you want something fast, use x264 –superfast, if you want something good use x264 –veryslow. MSU showed superfast was faster than quick sync while achieving better compression.

  20. zhabil2Evil says:

    ship worldwide guys plz

  21. PancakesGaming says:

@kd5eej That’s totally irrelevant to this video. His comment probably should’ve said "Intel is the best" or something along those lines.

  22. MrBaracas says:

Ahh, paul…Make them wear mic’s whether they want to or not. JJ doesn’t have a problem with wearing a mic, I’m sure this gentleman would have wore one too.

  23. manvelmkhitaryan says:

Wait, I thought youtube does trans-coding on it’s side.

  24. Sektor14g says:

    Paul <3
That is all. I could comment on the video itself, but there’s no need. I like Intel CPU’s. Enough said.

  25. ChiefLeftenant says:

@johndoe3243 Intel has a huge partnership With Nvidia… I doubt they will venture into such a huge capital investment project as to cmopete with AMD and Nvidia.
