Play.com customer service team

Now today, I get this:

Dear customers,

As a follow-up to an email we sent you the other night I would like to give you some additional details. On Sunday 20 March some customers report receiving junk e-mail to the e-mail addresses, they are used only for Play.com. We respond immediately and inform all our customers of this potential security breach therein, to take the necessary safeguard measures.

We believe that this problem can be associated with some occasional activity which is identified in December 2010 in our e-mail service provider, Silverpop. Investigations at the time shows no evidence that any of our customers e-mail addresses has been downloaded. We would like to ensure all our customers, the only information communicated to our ISP e-mail services is email addresses.  Play.com have taken all necessary steps with Silverpop to ensure the security of an infringement of this kind does not happen again.

Also, we want our customers to re-insure, that all other personal information (i.e. credit card, address, passwords, etc.) are stored in a very secure environment for Play.com. Play.com was one of the most stringent national standards for the security of electronic commerce in the sector. This is audited and tested several times a year by the leading companies for the protection of the Internet to ensure that a high level of safety is maintained. On behalf of Play.com I would like to apologise again for any inconvenience our customers because of the potential increase in junk e-mail, which may be due to this problem.

Many greetings

John
