I’m starting to get disappointed by the manner in which the debate about Internet privacy is currently held. There seems to be a permanent media buzz about how we are all at terrible risk of hawkish advertisers waiting just swoop in and steal our browsing history, and then make millions from him.

I hope that I am not alone in my disdain towards this alarmist and even know idea how the Internet works.

Should be clearly understood; I’m not against Internet privacy. I’m not any kind of protection from big brother-esque Government monitoring of Internet traffic. My beef is panicky reactions, we are seen by the media, Governments, the EU and many Internet users in terms of the privacy policy for the Internet.

Hardly a month goes by without a history of how Facebook is planning to sell the data to the customers of advertisers. Then this inevitably sparks outrage from users who believe they have been wronged in some way before Facebook support again, forced to return to the drawing board and discover how it can make money from their social media machine.

Facebook example is particularly good study, actually. Can I find it amazing that people will continuously be spiked around drunken pictures of themselves in it, one week and then the next week will denounce Facebook for an advertiser telling they have registered fashion in their interests. Provided they have made the choice to put photos, but there has been no word as to whether Facebook is sharing their data or not, but is the value of what Facebook is sharing really so great for them?

Facebook-privacy bogeyman or simply trying to make money?
He became even more paradoxical when you point that Facebook may not share information, not with; users should make the choice to upload personal data such as their interests, location and status of the connection. I know that this information is accessible only to friends, but I can find is those with friends list numbering in the high hundreds or even thousands, who frequently complain loudest when you consider that there has been a violation of their privacy. How much privacy do you think is right, while you were broadcast every status update, photo and even your location of each person you ever met?

The fact that Facebook has always been and always will be free also seems to be Forgotten, lost in reaction to the Facebook courage in actually trying to make money while keeping their service.

Unfortunately for us, however, public opinion must change too. The opinion that the Internet is free looks familiar, but the most interesting news, articles or online services is someone who must receive the remuneration. The first moves were made in the latest move change gustatory during charging for online content is an obvious example-but it will be a long hard road to the people to pay for what you had for so long.
