Microsoft is investigating new public reports of vulnerability in all supported editions of Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability could allow an attacker to cause a victim to run malicious scripts when visiting various Web sites, which leads to disclosure of information. This effect is similar to the vulnerability of scripting (XSS) on the server cross-site. Microsoft is aware of published information and proof of concept code that tries to exploit this vulnerability. By this time Microsoft has not seen indications of active exploitation of the vulnerability.


A security vulnerability exists because of the way in which MHTML interpreting MIME formatted requests for content blocks within one document. It is possible under certain conditions for that vulnerability to allow the attacker to inject client script in the Web query is executed in the context of the victim’s Internet Explorer. The script could spoof content, disclose information, or to take any action which the user can take on the affected Web site on behalf of the target user.


Microsoft has published a circumvention of the “Correct” one click and errors involved locking down MHTML. This will prevent the start of the script in all zones within the MHTML document. Any application using the MHTML will be affected by the provisional decision.
